  History

New Life Center opened as a shelter program and private addiction treatment program in 1972. The New Life Center began as the formal effort of a group of concerned citizens who were looking for effective ways to deal with homeless, abused, dispossessed and chemically dependent people. It is the oldest combined program in Santa Cruz. Over the years the program has expanded to provide a wide range of support services for homeless and/or addicted people with the goal of helping them make a successful transition into healthy, productive living.

  Volunteers

New Life offers opportunities to people who have a desire to reach out to those in need. At New Life we rely on volunteer hours. Volunteers can receive credit towards training programs at local colleges.

   Addiction Counseling

Problems of addictive behavior are at the heart of many social ills. Economic hardship is often the result of untreated alcoholism, drug abuse, gambling, compulsive spending, and in some cases troubled relationships. Many children who grew up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional families find themselves repeating these patterns as adults. NLCS seeks to equip those suffering from substance abuse or self-destructive behavior with the tools to break out of this cycle of pain. Recovery involves rigorous honesty and acceptance of responsibility. The reward is a New Beginning.
